Jo and Nicky Darc are The Twistettes; a Riot Grrrl steeped, Indie two piece with a splash of Psychobilly by their own admission.
A brilliant and protest worthy tune, The Line is the first single from the bands upcoming album Suck It, Fake it. Starting with something of a signature sound, Jo’s bass set’s a punk riddled pace for the song. A skill within itself, Jo’s ability to make her bass sound like some mad, other worldly instrument is incredible. Dirty and distorted it demands your attention, bringing a fuller band feel to this two piece. Not that there is anything small about their sound by far. Loud and precise, Nicky’s commanding drum beats create a sense of urgency giving the whole song a feeling of endlessness.
Clear and anthemic, I love the solo vocal break down before the chorus. Jo’s strong yet almost light voice carries you down until Nicky’s backing vocals kick in punctuating the tune. Just as good is the key change as the song slides in to the last chorus. It’s a subtle change yet brings the song to a perfect crescendo in its ending.
Suck It, Fake It will be out early next year so check out The Twistettes Facebook and Soundcloud for more details!
